“Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food”
Sadly, most foods consumed today are over processed, refined and of poor quality. Because of our need to eat something quick and easy to prepare, Americans purchase a lot of prepackaged, prepared foods. These foods have been stripped of their healthy nutrients. Twenty-five percent of Americans eat some form of fast food every day. As a nation, we are overfed but undernourished due to the food choices we make. Even diabetes, heart disease and obesity are now newsworthy conditions due to the large increase in the number of people suffering from these illnesses each year.
Dr. McBee believes that by balancing the body nutritionally, the body has the innate ability to heal itself and to perform at its best.
The goal of our Nutritional Services is to develop a nutritional foundation to balance, support and restore essential nutrients your body needs that are vital for it to function properly. By performing a thorough nutritional history, examination and Nutritional Response Testing, Dr. McBee is able to recommend a whole food supplement and/or herbal protocol to support common musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr. McBee uses a variety of advanced techniques for the Nutritional Response Testing (NRT). This form of testing is a thorough evaluation of your body’s nutritional health status by using a combination of muscle testing and acupressure points. NRT is noninvasive, accurate and a comprehensive testing method used in evaluating a patient’s nutritional needs and designing an individualized, effective nutritional supplementation program. Developing a nutritional protocol using this testing method provides a unique nutritional supplementation plan for each patient based specifically on their body’s nutritional needs. It is not a “one supplement fits all” plan.
The purpose of a good nutritional protocol is primarily threefold: 1) To restore nutrients that your body currently does not have or is deficient in; 2) To remove unwanted toxicities that are within the body due to chemicals, environmental toxins, heavy metals and immune stressors (bacteria, viruses, yeast, molds); 3) Restore the integrity of your nervous system that controls and operates your entire body.
Additional stressors to your body that may cause nutritional deficiencies include lifestyle stress, inflammation and degenerative changes in your joints, including your spine and vertebral discs.
After determining the nutritional deficiencies and stressors within the body, an individualized whole food supplement and/or herbal protocol will be designed to restore wellness by balancing the body nutritionally.
By following a nutritional protocol, patients have reported an improvement in many conditions such as joint and muscle pain, inflammation, sprain/strain injuries, osteoporosis, arthritis, anxiety, depression, fatigue, digestion issues, blood pressure, allergies, sinus conditions, and hormonal imbalances.
Furthermore, nutrient-packed whole food supplements and herbs may increase the benefits of exercise by increasing muscle, ligament and bone strength, physical stamina and energy.
Why Should You be Tested?
It is Dr. McBee’s opinion that everyone should undergo a thorough nutritional evaluation. It is very important to detect any nutritional deficiencies within the body as early as possible, so it can be corrected and cellular damage avoided. Everybody wants to feel their best and participate in all the activities they enjoy. Good nutrition is important to keeping and maintaining good health and function in life.
Nutritional deficiencies or imbalances can produce any number of symptoms. To help determine if you suffer from any symptoms that may be caused by a nutritional deficiency, please complete the Systems Survey Form.
Nutritional testing can also determine whether or not your current supplements are even working for you.
Taking prescription medication can also deplete essential vitamins and minerals in your body. If you are taking prescription medication, it may be helpful for you to restore those vitamins and minerals so your body can function at its best. For more information on this topic, please review the handout, “Drugs That Gobble Up Vitamins.”
Who Should be Tested?
- Adults and children that primarily eat processed foods (i.e. foods in a box, can, jar or pre-made frozen foods, non-organic dairy products) and/or fast foods on a regular basis
- Athletes to increase and maintain energy, endurance and strength
- The elderly in order to restore nutrients lost in prescribed medications and poor diet
- Individuals with a stressful lifestyle
- Individuals who want to strengthen and maintain a healthy immune system
- Individuals who want to decrease musculoskeletal pain and inflammation naturally
Nutrient-packed, good nutrition is so important to your health and well-being that Dr. McBee believes people of all ages, including children, can benefit from undergoing a nutritional evaluation. The ultimate goal of good nutrition is to restore and maintain health and wellness naturally. The result is that you feel better, have more energy and can enjoy the activities that you love to do.
Hair Mineral Analysis
Hair Mineral Analysis is another nutritional service offered to our patients. Although most of our patients prefer to obtain the Hair Mineral Analysis along with Nutritional Response Testing (NRT); the Hair Mineral Analysis can be done alone without NRT.
Hair Mineral Analysis is a helpful tool in determining if you are not only eating well, but digesting and absorbing the full nutrients your body needs. Hair Mineral Analysis is able to capture a three month window of nutritional data about your specific body.
Laboratory hair analysis has been around for a long time. A hair analysis is done by sending a small hair sample to a laboratory for analysis. Once analyzed by the lab, a detailed report of approximately 20 to 35 pages is issued.
Here are a few topics that are outlined in the report: The level of adrenal stress your body is under (i.e. how stressed out you are), the effectiveness of your digestive process (the breakdown and absorption of food), whether you are consuming too many carbohydrates and sugars, whether you are getting adequate amounts of protein, whether you have toxic metals in your system, an analysis of the mineral content of your body and whether your mineral ratios are off balance (i.e. calcium to magnesium, etc.) and how much energy you are producing to run your body.
Preventatively, the laboratory report will also outline areas of nutritional deficiencies or imbalances that should be addressed before symptoms are actually experienced.
Again, an individualized whole food supplement and/or herbal protocol will be recommended based on the Hair Mineral Analysis results to restore and balance your specific areas of nutritional deficiencies.
Standard Process® and MediHerb® Products
Dr. McBee is proud to offer high quality whole food supplements and herbal products from Standard Process and MediHerb. These products are only available through licensed health care professionals. Standard Process supplements are “whole food” supplements which means they are made from whole foods! These supplements are easily recognized, absorbed and utilized by the body. With the belief that whole foods provide the best nutrition, Dr. McBee believes that whole food supplements will supply your body with what it needs to restore wellness and prevent injury or illness.
In contrast, many over-the-counter supplements are synthetic in nature and include colors, fillers and additives. The body is unable to recognize and absorb many of these supplements; therefore, they provide no nutritional value to the body.
Finally, each Standard Process and MediHerb product is specifically designed to achieve a specific result. Many times Dr. McBee recommends these products in combination to maximize the patient’s results and achieve their goals for nutritional health.
